Good 'ol Plant City

Now there is a series of questions to ask:

First, have you heard of the Florida Strawberry Festival?
Second, have you visited the Florida Strawberry Festival?
Lastly, have you first handedly made
your very own strawberry shortcake???

A little history lesson on good 'ol Plant City
and the birth of the Florida Strawberry Festival:

The event began back in 1930 when members
of the newly organized Plant City Lions Club
conceived the idea of an event to celebrate the
bountiful harvest of strawberries.
In 1948, the American Legion Post #26
helped get the Florida Strawberry Festival
reactivated following a six-year hiatus during
and immediately following World War II.
The Lions Club and other civic organizations
have participated in the Festival ever since.

Today, the annual event has become one of the
best Festivals in the nation,
and now ranks among the Top 40 Fairs in North America.
Such a fun fact!

The Florida Strawberry Festival is a great time
to discover the charm and allure of Plant City,
and it's the perfect time to enjoy eating ripe,
luscious strawberries alongside the local berry f
armers that have worked hard to bring to them to market.

With country music stars and the royal families,
this is sure to be a show stopper!

My hubby had never been (I couldn't believe my ears!)
nor had one of my very good friend and her parents and husband.
So only thing to do -
pile everyone into the surburban
and head to Plant City to experience the festival for the day!

We have a great time trying fair food and
walking around the vendors, s

and of course...

Making our very own strawberry shortcake!
That's mine above. So good.
This is my only reason I love to go. So good.
Did I mention it is So good?!

We headed back home and the ended our night with a movie
as we were full and content!

First year newbies no more!

Have you ever been to the Strawberry Festival?

A Legacy is Born!

Hey all!

We just kicked off our 2013 event season
at my place of employment and
I could not be more pleased!

We had an amazing speaker,
Dr. Robert Huizenga from NBC's The Biggest Loser,
talk to our donors at an informal gathering over dinner.

Dr. Robert Huizenga

 His style was beyond perfect:
understanding yet concerning
for YOUR health.
Only you can change it but we are here to help you.

Our event, The Legacy Dinner,
is a Thank You to our donors.
For an amazing year we have had and to kick off our new one!

Amazing donors!

We started the evening with a photo booth area,
where guests were about to choose a
healthy and encouraging
message on a cartoon bubble!!!

Team Members having fun!

Excitment draws as guests arrive at registration, and social hour begins!
Chattering. Laughing.
Hugs. Squeals. Kisses. Hand shakes.
Smiles.

Soak.It.In.
This is what I love to see and hear.
Everyone enjoying themselves.

Me (left) and a board member!

This was an excellent ride into the 2013 year.

Diving in is my metaphor this year

Happy Heart Day!

Truth be told,
Valentine's is my absolute favorite holiday of the year
(then it is my birthday, in case you wanted to know).
You may be able to tell the theme is that I love to be spoiled.
If everyday was a possiblity I would love that.
Surprises, love notes, gifts, treats, the whole nine yards.

Now, as one might ask...Why is this my FAVORITE day?

When I was a wee little one,
my daddy sent me flowers from the day I could remember on this day.
Something that would just make me smile ear to ear.
So thoughtful and made me feel so special!
We would have a lovely family dinner where we would all help and
just be funny and silly, together.

As time went on, my daddy would still send flowers and
make sure to hug a little tighter each growing year.
Boom. I was hooked.
He had set the stone for the boys men to enter into my life.
Thank.You.Very.Much.Daddy!

Hubby has known this fact from the very beginning and has been just as swet from my very first valentine from him to today's.
I love that there is a day that everyone remembers to be that extra does of loving.
As daily life gets in the way and no matter how much we try to be just as loving, we sometimes overlook that. Today, is the day we remember and remember that we fell in love for a reason and to cherish those memories.

That's, my friends, the reason why today is my FAVORITE.
Now, if you are single. Or even with someone.
Today is for you as well.

Love yourself - head to the gym. Cook yourself your favorite meal.
Splurge on a present, made just for you.

And if you are anything like me,
spoil that other person with so much love and
make memories that will last a lifetime.
Friend. Mom. Dad. Sibling. Partner.

Do it for love.

Happy Heart Day my dears!
